Best known as the vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter of Toronto noise rock legends METZ, Edkins has allowed his pop sensibilities to flourish under the Weird Nightmare moniker, releasing a full-length album in 2022 and a series of ultra-catchy singles on Sub Pop Records. What started as a home-recorded solo project during the pandemic, has substantially widened its scope as Edkins continues to grow and has set his sights on a more “wide-screen, hi-fi sound” on his sophomore LP for Sub Pop Records.

Upbeat, optimistic and downright fun, Weird Nightmare is melodic and hooky and shows Edkins’ love for a broad range of 60s garage / punk / indie rock, recalling favorites like Dinosaur Jr, Guided By Voices, Breeders, Spoon and Big Star.  “Hooks and melody have always been a big part of my writing, but they really became thefocal point with this band” says Edkins.
